UK Homesteading is the first comprehensive directory of it written for this country: growing, keeping animals, preserving, living off-grid and what the law actually asks of you. 382 pages, built on a keyword universe of 16,326 researched terms so the site answers what people here are genuinely searching for.
About the directory
UK Homesteading covers growing your own, keeping animals, the kitchen and preserving, the natural home, off-grid and survival, homestead skills, selling what you produce, and UK law and rules, all written from a British perspective. It is the place for anyone starting or growing a homestead here, whether that is a windowsill, an allotment or a smallholding, with climate-matched varieties, a real month-by-month calendar and plain-English explanations of the registrations and licences that apply.

The whole subject, in one place
- 382 pages across nine areas: growing, keeping animals, the kitchen, the natural home, off-grid and survival, homestead skills, selling what you produce, UK law and rules, and where to start.
- Every section written for British conditions: climate-matched varieties, a month-by-month calendar that matches our seasons, solar and battery sizing for UK light and UK winters, and the registrations and licences that actually apply here by species and by nation.
- A legal reference section on its own, because what British law asks of a homesteader, from registering chickens to walking a pig down a lane, is the thing nobody else explains plainly.
Research before writing
- 16,326 keywords mapped across 64 topic areas before a single page was written, so the structure came from what people search rather than from what was easy to write.
- The map decided the sections, the pages and the order they were built in, which is why the site covers the whole subject rather than the parts that are fun to write about.
- Sources cited and a page explaining how the research is done, because advice that could cost somebody a flock needs to be checkable.

The research came first: a keyword universe of 16,326 terms across 64 topic areas, swept for real UK demand, then cut into the nine sections and the pages under them. Each page answers one thing somebody actually types, in British terms rather than American ones, which is the gap the whole site exists in. 382 pages are published on that map, and the plan is a page for every real question in the subject.
